Seremban 88
18 May

May 18 2008 will be remembered as a BIG day for Chess and Chess enthusiasts in Negeri Sembilan as 88 players battled against Chess Master Collin Madhavan. It was also a new Malaysian Chess Record for simultaneous games played. RB Land was the main sponsor for the Chess Match while other sponsors include IJM Berhad, Karisma Tuition Centre,  Quantum88 Corporation Sdn Bhd & Sri Garden (KL).

The final score was 67 - 21 in the master's favour with 54 wins, 26 draws and 8 losses (76% playing record). Apart from members of the public, the  participants also included 2 FIDE rated players, Pok Wern Jian (2126) & Kamar Dani (1664), all 36 MSSM (Negeri Sembilan) players and a few teachers, and a number of former State players.

All participants received a certificate and a door gift. Some were even luckier as they received book prizes as incentive to better their game.

Here are some interesting facts about the Chess match:

- Duration: 8 hours (Started 9.30am: Ended 5.25 pm)

- Longest game: 49 moves

- walked about 7,900 steps (estimate)

- Average time per player 5.45 minutes per games.

- Collin only drank orange juice throughout the match (inspired by GM Susan Polgar), did not
eat or rest throughout the match and walked around without shoes.

The match was reported in a number of dailies. Here are three of them:
